Real-world range depends on rider weight, terrain, wind, tyre pressure, assist level, temperature and riding style.
Battery care tip: Lithium-ion batteries perform best when stored indoors at moderate temperature. Avoid leaving the battery unused for long periods without topping it up.
Charging status: Red light means charging, green light means fully charged and the charger has moved into maintenance mode.
Weather note: The battery and LCD are splash-resistant for light wet weather, but the bike should not be left exposed to prolonged wet conditions.

Tyre pressure guide

Recommended tyre pressures for each Pedibal model. Always check the tyre sidewall too, and adjust slightly for rider weight, cargo and comfort preference.

Model Hard surfaces (roads, pavements) Light trails (gravel, packed dirt) Sand or snow Mud or loose terrain
Navigata CitE / MKII 40–42 psi 20–25 psi 15–20 psi
Explora 40–42 psi 20–25 psi 15–20 psi
E-Cruiza 20–25 psi 15–20 psi 5–12 psi 10–15 psi
Maxima 20–25 psi 15–20 psi 5–12 psi 10–15 psi
Lower pressure can improve grip and comfort, while higher pressure can improve rolling efficiency on smoother surfaces. Do not exceed the maximum pressure printed on the tyre sidewall.

Frequently asked questions

The most important answers, grouped properly and made easier to browse.

These are the most common questions Pedibal riders ask about charging, throttle use, range, maintenance, legality and ownership. Open any section below to see the answer.

Is riding an electric bicycle the same as riding a normal bike?

On the whole, yes. The main difference is assisted propulsion. When stationary, dismounted, or pushing the cycle, switch the power off and remove the key to avoid accidental acceleration.

What pump and tyre pressure do I need?

Use any standard bicycle pump designed for Schrader valves.

As a quick guide, Navigata CitE / MKII and Explora are usually around 40–42 psi on roads, while E-Cruiza and Maxima are usually around 20–25 psi on hard surfaces.

Always check the tyre sidewall and see the tyre pressure table on this page for more detailed guidance.

Where can I get replacement tyres?

You can buy replacement tyres from Pedibal.com or from other sellers, as long as the tyre is the correct size for your model.

As a quick guide, Navigata CitE uses 20" × 1.7, Navigata MKII uses 20" × 1.9, and Explora, E-Cruiza and Maxima use 20" × 4.0 tyres.

Most importantly, the outer diameter must match the original specification. If the fitted tyre changes the overall rolling diameter too much, the wheel speed signal can fall outside the expected range. That can affect calibration, speed readings and normal system operation, and in some cases may trigger protective behaviour from the controller.

For best results, we recommend matching the original tyre size as closely as possible.

How do I charge the battery?

The battery can be charged on or off the bike. Plug the charger lead into the battery socket first, then plug the charger into the household wall socket.

How do I know when the battery is fully charged?

The charger shows a red LED while charging and changes to green when the battery is full.

How long will the battery last?

Range depends on the model, battery size, terrain, rider weight, wind and assist level, but as a simple guide most Pedibal bikes will typically cover around 20 to 50+ miles per charge, with some larger-battery models going further in favourable conditions.

The battery itself is typically rated for around 500–600 charge cycles.

Will the USB charge my phone?

Yes. The Navigata, Maxima & E-Cruiza includes a USB output capable of charging mobile phones.

Do I have to pedal, or can I use the throttle?

Most electric bicycles only provide pedal assist, but selected Pedibal models also feature a DVSA-certified full-throttle system, allowing assisted riding up to the legal limit without pedalling in the usual way.

This is one of the key differences between Pedibal and many standard e-bikes. Where applicable, the throttle system has been prepared and certified through the appropriate MSVA / DVSA route, so it can be used as intended while remaining compliant for UK road use.

For a fuller explanation of how this works and why it is different from a typical twist-and-go e-bike, please see our MSVA information page.

What is the maximum assisted speed?

The electric assist supports you up to 15.5 mph (25 km/h).

You can ride faster than this, but the motor will stop assisting beyond that limit.

Are there UK laws I should know about?

If an electric bike meets EAPC rules, it is treated similarly to a normal pedal cycle in the UK. Key points include:

  • You must be 14 or over
  • The bike must have usable pedals
  • The motor must not assist beyond 15.5 mph
  • The motor must not exceed 250 watts continuous rated output

Laws can change, so always check the latest guidance here:

Read UK electric bike rules

Can I put the bike on a normal car rack?

Navigata and Explora can usually go on a normal car bike rack, provided the rack is rated for the bike’s weight and wheel size.

The folding Maxima is much heavier, so it will need a stronger rack designed for heavier e-bikes.

The non-folding Maxima and E-Cruiza are generally not suitable for a normal bike rack due to their size and weight.

Always check the rack manufacturer’s weight limit before transport, and remove the battery first where possible to reduce load.

How do I service and maintain the bike?

Regular light maintenance is recommended, especially if the bike is used frequently. Basic checks include:

  • Wheel, frame and fork tightness
  • Tyre pressure and tread condition
  • Gearshift lubrication
  • Bell, reflectors and lights
  • Brake operation

Most reputable cycle shops offer service packages. You can also visit Pedibal at Unit 4 Maple Grove Business Centre, TW4 6DR.

Can I remove and lock the battery?

Yes. The battery is locked to the bike and the supplied key is needed for removal.

Two keys are supplied. We strongly recommend making a spare and storing it safely.

Does pedalling charge the battery?

No. The system is not regenerative, so pedalling does not recharge the battery.

Will the lights still work if the battery is low?

Yes. The battery management system protects the motor first, while leaving sufficient reserve for the lights.

Are replacement batteries available?

Yes. Replacement batteries are available directly from Pedibal.com.

Does the bike arrive assembled?

Yes. The bike arrives fully assembled and ready for delivery.

Can I try one before buying?

Yes. You can visit the Pedibal Hounslow facility and try the bike in person.

Is the bike covered by warranty?

Yes. The bike includes a limited 2 year frame warranty and 1 year battery warranty, subject to proof of purchase and Pedibal warranty terms.

How quickly is delivery?

We currently deliver to the UK mainland only.

As a simple guide, Navigata and Explora are usually delivered within 1 working day, while E-Cruiza and Maxima are usually delivered within 2–5 working days.

If you choose the Certified Throttle DVSA option, please allow around 2–5 weeks for testing before dispatch.

For full delivery details, please see our shipping policy.

Recommended safety equipment

A bicycle helmet meeting EN1078 is strongly recommended. Gloves and a hi-vis jacket are also sensible additions for safer riding.

Running costs

Electricity cost is very low, often estimated at roughly 7p per charge, with tyres and servicing being the main additional ownership costs.

Chain care

The enclosed chain needs less regular attention than an exposed one, but it is still a good idea to clean and lubricate it every few months for best performance.

Weather and storage

Store the bike indoors where possible. Prolonged exposure to wet conditions can increase wear and may encourage rust over time.
